Grey Internal Doors
Our grey internal doors arrive pre-finished, so there's no painting to do once they're trimmed and hung. Choose from light, medium, ash and dark grey, plus charcoal and chocolate tones, with either a wipe-clean laminate or a wood veneer face, as solid panel designs or with clear glass. Most buyers settle the shade first, then choose between solid panels and glass. None of these doors is fire-rated, so if building control asks for FD30 on a landing or in a loft conversion, our grey fire doors are the ones to order.

Light, medium or dark: choosing grey internal doors
Start with the light in the room. Pale greys keep a north-facing hallway bright, while darker greys look richest where there’s plenty of daylight.
| Shade | The look | Example designs | Works well with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light grey | Soft and airy | LPD Montreal, Mexicano and Belize; Deanta Torino and Sorrento | White walls and pale oak floors |
| Medium grey | A balanced mid-tone | LPD Vancouver Medium Grey | Warm white or greige walls |
| Ash grey | Grey with visible wood grain | LPD Zanzibar and Zeus; Deanta Ravello | Natural timber floors |
| Dark grey | Deep and contemporary | Deanta Montreal and Malmo; LPD Vancouver Dark Grey | Pale walls for contrast |
| Charcoal and chocolate grey | Near-black, with a hint of brown | LPD Galway, Alcaraz and Apollo | Brass or matt black handles |
Light grey internal doors make up the biggest part of the range, from grooved LPD designs to Deanta’s plain and glazed panels. They’re the safe choice if you’re doing a whole house and want something softer than white.
Ash grey internal doors let the grain show through the colour. The LPD Zanzibar Ash Grey, for example, pairs its veneer with a slim aluminium inlay, while Deanta’s grey ash designs keep things plain.
Dark grey internal doors give a strong, modern line against pale walls. For a deeper look again, compare our black internal doors from Deanta and LPD.
Laminate or wood veneer grey internal doors
Grey doors here come with one of two faces, and the difference shows most in the grain and the upkeep.
- Laminate: our grey laminate internal doors, mostly LPD designs such as the Vancouver and Montreal, have a printed, wipe-clean surface over a semi-solid core. They’re tough, consistent from door to door and well suited to rentals and family hallways.
- Wood veneer: Deanta’s grey ash range and LPD’s Zeus and Apollo use a thin layer of real timber, so the grain varies a little from one door to the next.
- Oak veneer: for grey oak internal doors, the LPD Vancouver Light Grey 5 Panel puts a grey finish over oak veneer, so you get the colour with oak grain beneath it.
Almost every grey design comes finished at the factory, so the colour is even and there’s no masking or painting on site. They sit alongside the rest of our pre-finished internal doors in oak, black and walnut.
To clean either face, use a soft cloth with warm water and a little mild detergent, and steer clear of abrasive pads and harsh chemicals.
Solid or glazed grey doors
Glass lifts a grey finish, especially in a darker hallway. Grey glazed internal doors in the range include Deanta’s Ravello 1 Lite, Sorrento 2 Lite, Montreal and Torino, and LPD’s Vancouver 4 Lite and Laminate Ladder.
The Deanta Ravello lists clear toughened glass. On other designs the product page states the glass type, and any pane that sits low in the door should be toughened safety glass. Our glazed internal doors range shows every glass type side by side.
Solid grey internal doors give more privacy and a cleaner block of colour, so they’re the better pick for bedrooms and bathrooms.
Grey doors in the home
Grey works with almost any scheme because it sits between warm and cool. Light grey doors look crisp against white walls and pale floors, while dark grey stands out against warm whites and natural oak.
For a warmer feel, the chocolate greys or ash grey veneers bring a hint of brown, and our walnut doors take that warmth further.
Try to keep one shade of grey internal doors throughout a hallway or landing, as several greys side by side can look mismatched in daylight.
Still deciding whether grey, oak or white suits your home? Our guide to oak vs white internal doors sets out how each works with light and upkeep.
Fitting grey internal doors
Measure the frame opening rather than the old door, and check whether your frames are imperial or metric before you order, as the two systems differ in height and thickness.
Trimming allowances vary by design, so check the product page before you cut. On a laminate face, score the cut line or use a fine-toothed blade so the edge doesn’t chip, then seal any bare edge you’ve exposed.
Solid core grey internal doors, including the Deanta designs, are heavy, so hang them on three hinges. Hinges and handles are sold separately.
Grey internal doors: common questions
Are grey internal doors still in style?
Yes. Grey interior doors are still a widely chosen neutral in UK homes, and light greys in particular sit well with current pale schemes. Black has grown alongside it as the bolder option, and many homes now mix grey doors with black handles.
Light, ash, medium or dark grey: how do I choose?
Go by the light in the room and the floor beneath. Pale greys suit darker spaces and light floors, ash grey suits natural timber, and dark grey works best in bright rooms.
Are grey doors laminate or veneer?
Both. Most LPD grey designs are laminate, while Deanta’s grey ash range and LPD’s Zeus, Zanzibar and Apollo are wood veneer. The product title tells you which.
Can I paint a grey laminate door?
It isn’t designed to be painted, as paint struggles to grip a laminate face without a specialist primer. If you might want a different colour later, a primed door is the better route.
What colour handles go with a grey door?
Matt black for contrast, satin chrome or stainless steel to keep a cool, modern look, and brushed brass to warm up darker or chocolate greys.
Do you sell grey fire doors?
Yes. Fire-rated internal grey doors come in a separate FD30 range, mostly light grey laminate with a few medium and dark grey designs.
