Hollow Core Internal Doors
Hollow core internal doors weigh and cost less than solid or fire rated doors. Fit them in bathrooms, storages and cupboards. Keep them out of garages and stairwells or any room where security is a requirement.

Before you buy
Measure the opening, not the old door
Someone has planed that old door down at some point, so you will take the wrong measurement off it. Measure the opening.
Then measure the lining height. 1981mm means imperial sizing, 2040mm means metric, and the two don’t mix. If your opening sits between two sizes, order the larger one and trim it down.
Check the trimming allowance before cutting
A timber frame runs round the outside of the door. Cut past it and you reach the honeycomb, where the edge crumbles and a hinge screw has nothing to bite into.
Split the cut between both sides rather than taking it off one edge. Each product page lists the allowance for that door. For anything deeper, buy solid internal doors, which take a much bigger cut.
Find the lock block before you hang the door
One edge holds a solid timber block. Your latch and handle screw into that block, and the manufacturer marks it on the top edge.
Hang the door the wrong way round and you have nothing behind the facing to screw into. You find that out after cutting the hinge recesses. If you can’t see the mark, knock along both edges. The block sounds dull, the rest hollow.
Seal unfinished or freshly trimmed edges
Any unfinished or freshly trimmed edges should be sealed before installation to help protect the door from moisture. Use the finish recommended by the manufacturer.
Our pre-finished internal doors arrive already finished, although any edges exposed by trimming may still need resealing.
How much sound do they block?
Not much. You trade sound insulation for the low weight and the low price. For a main bedroom off a busy landing, or a home office, buy a solid core door.
Can you use one as a fire door?
No. Standard hollow core doors are not fire-rated. If fire resistance is required, choose a certified FD30 or FD60 fire door designed and tested for that purpose.
